RISON – Rison scored three times in the second period to break open a close game en route to a 63-26 win over Smackover Friday in 6-3A play.
The Wildcats (5-1, 3-0) won their fifth straight to stay perfect in league play along with McGehee.
The Wildcats and Owls meet next week in McGehee with first place in the conference at stake.
The Bucks (2-4, 0-3) lost their third straight, but had their most productive week scoring-wise since topping Hampton 28-20 in their final non-conference game last month.
After being held to just six points by Lake Village and Harmony Grove, the Bucks got three touchdown passes from Brandon Lockhart and another from Tyler Sexton.
D’Kylan Hildreth was on the receiving end of three of those touchdown passes, including a 91-yard score from Lockhart in the third quarter.
Lockhart threw a 24-yard strike to Hildreth for the Bucks’ first touchdown of the game before Sexton connected with the junior in the second quarter.
The Bucks trailed 36-14 at intermission, but their passing attack continued to produce in the second half.
Lockhart fired a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jarius Burgie at the 8:37 mark of the third period before later connecting for a second time with Hildreth on his aforementioned 91-yard touchdown with 3:24 to play in the third period.
Smackover returns home to take on Barton next week.
