BEARDEN – The one-two punch of Lancer Clark and Payton Willeford proved to be a devastating combination for Parkers Chapel, as the duo combined for all six of the Trojans’ touchdowns in a 42-24 win at Bearden Friday in the 8-2A opener for both schools.
The Trojans (1-3, 1-0) won for the first time since topping Strong on Oct. 30 of last year, while the Bears (0-6, 0-1) remain winless in 2021.
Clark had touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams for the Trojans, but his first score came as a receiver, as Willeford connected with the senior on a 30-yard touchdown pass.
Clark then delivered on special teams, scoring on a 50-yard punt return.
Willeford scored on a 10-yard run, but the biggest play of the game came on the final play of the first half.
On the last play of the half, Clark intercepted a pass and returned it 100 yards to paydirt to increase the Trojans’ lead to 28-6 at intermission.
Clark and Willeford each had rushing touchdowns in the second half to keep the Bears at bay.
The Trojans return home to host Junction City in a showdown between Union County rivals next week.
The Bears will host Hampton next week.
