El Dorado Fire Department personnel successfully put out an electrical fire at a residence located on McKinney Court on Monday evening, according to an EFD report.

The report, written in part by EFD Captain Mike Miller, states that EFD units arrived on scene at 5:26 p.m.

"Upon arrival smoke [was] showing... I entered the structure and could hear and see electrical arching down the hallway at the electrical panel," Miller states in the report.

EFD personnel then "pulled" the electrical meter and made contact with Entergy before spraying water "on the wall just above the electrical panel."

Firefighters then accessed the home's attic to confirm that the fire had not spread there.

"Upon access to the attic we sprayed a little water and determined the fire was out," Miller states in the report.

Next, firefighters used a fan to blow smoke from the home.

Miller also states in the report that "a police officer attempted to extinguish the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher" before the fire department arrived.

The responding units were able to return to service by 6:18 p.m.

The report attributes the fire to "failure of equipment or heat source" and declares that no human factors contributed to the fire.

The National Fire Protection Association recommends calling an electrician or landlord if you encounter frequent problems with fuses blowing or circuit breakers tripping, discolored or warm outlets, a tingling feeling when touching an electrical appliance, burning or rubbery smells coming from an electrical appliance, flickering or dimming lights or sparks from an outlet.
