Challengers win out in PC school board races

Unopposed candidates retain seats

Several school board members across Union County faced re-election on Tuesday.

Early voting was held from May 11 to May 17 at the Clerk’s Office in the Union County Courthouse and election day voting took place for all races at the First Baptist Church of Parkers Chapel.

Polls closed at 7:30 p.m. and preliminary results were announced soon after.

In the race for the Parkers Chapel School Board, Position 4 seat, challenger Kristina Madison bested incumbent Grace Palculict. Palculict received 99 votes to Madison’s 184.

In the race for the Parkers Chapel School Board, Position 5 seat, challenger Lisa Murray defeated incumbent Emily Carelock. Carelock received 86 votes, while Murray received 196.

The remaining candidates ran unopposed.

El Dorado Zone 1 incumbent Wayne C. Gibson was re-elected to his position with two votes; El Dorado Zone 6 incumbent Vicky J. Dobson was re-elected to her position with three votes; and Junction City Zone 4 incumbent Bobby E. Bryan was re-elected to his position with one vote.

Smackover Zone 4 incumbent Cliff Preston ran as a write-in candidate and was re-elected with one vote.

No millage rates will change as a result of the election.

The Election Commission will certify the results on Monday, May 24, at 1 p.m. at the courthouse, Commission Chair Cliff Wright said.
