The Downtown Business Association and Main Street El Dorado are celebrating love and marriage with the May installment of First Thursday.

Brides, grooms, members of the wedding party and relatives are invited to the Wedding Expo, which will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday in downtown El Dorado.

Easter was the theme for First Thursday in April and organizers are now looking toward wedding season, which typically begins in mid- to late-spring and continues through the fall.

Merchants are encouraging couples to explore downtown El Dorado to fill their nuptial needs.

Beth Brumley, executive director of Main Street El Dorado, said attendees may be surprised by the variety of wedding-planning options that are available in the city’s Central Business District.

Rings, flowers, beauty/spa treatments, gifts and registries, catering and accommodations/venue rentals are just some of the services that are offered by downtown businesses, Brumley said.

The event will include live music, food, special sales, goody bags and a drawing for a chance to win a grand-prize package that will include a mix of wedding services that are available downtown.

A courtesy cart, sponsored by the DBA, will be available to shuttle attendees around the downtown square.

Businesses will remain open until 7 p.m.

From 4 until 6:30 p.m., attendees may stop by the MSE tent at 101 W. Main to claim their goody bags, register for the prize giveaway and pick up maps and information highlighting participating downtown businesses and information about the wedding services they offer.

Brumley said there was also a good turnout for First Thursday in April, the first for 2021, and organizers are hoping for the same response for the Wedding Expo.

First Thursday is presented by the DBA, with assistance from MSE, to help boost foot traffic in downtown shops and to promote downtown El Dorado.

The event typically includes games, food, sales and/or discounts, all based on a different theme that is selected for each month, and stores stay open later.
