Lady Trojans shut out Crossett

PARKERS CHAPEL – Freshman Kallie Martin pitched a three-hit shutout and also homered Monday as Parkers Chapel downed Crossett 2-0 in nonconference softball action. The Lady Trojans improved to 14-9 on the season while the 4A Lady Eagles fell to 11-11.

Martin pitched seven innings, allowing three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Lady Trojans scored both of their runs in the first inning. Reaux McAuliffe singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Drue Thomas. Martin followed with a solo home run to leftfield.

Parkers Chapel threatened in the fifth as Macie Wood and McAuliffe both singled and Madison Arnold walked to load the bases with no outs against Crossett pitcher Mary Kate Armstrong.

The Lady Eagles brought in Lana Carter, who got the next three batters on a pop out to the catcher, pop out to the pitcher and ground out to second.

Armstrong gave up two runs on seven hits in four innings. Carter pitched two scoreless innings, allowing a hit with one strikeout.

Ali Looney went 3-for-3 and McAuliffe was 2-for-3 for the Lady Trojans, who had eight hits and committed two errors in the game.
