An El Dorado man was killed Thursday morning in a car wreck on United States Highway 167 in Union County that left three others injured.
According to a road fatality report by the Arkansas State Police, Charles D. Adams, 69, of El Dorado was killed Thursday morning shortly before noon after his vehicle was struck from behind.
The report says Adams, driving a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, was headed south on Hwy. 167, as were Selvin, Melvin and Christian Sampson, all of Alexandria, Louisiana. Melvin A. Sampson was driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue that the two others were passengers in.
Adams’ vehicle was struck from behind by the Sampsons’, according to the report, and his vehicle left the roadway toward the right, while the second vehicle came to rest in the road. The Sampsons were all injured in the wreck.
Weather conditions were clear at the time of the accident — 11:51 a.m. — and road conditions were wet, according to the report.
Adams is the 188th person to die in a car accident on a highway in Arkansas this year. His was the 169th fatal accident so far this year.
Several other fatal accidents have occurred in Union County this year.
According to previous News-Times reporting, on January 8, William J. Bradley, 21, of Hampton and Eric C. White, 44, of West Monroe, were killed in an accident on the Calion River Bridge. Local cardiologist Dr. Aldo Fonticiella, 63, was killed in an accident on Highway 82 on February 7.
On March 27, Joanna McJunkin, 35, of McRae was killed in an accident and El Dorado’s Shawn Strickland, 25, later died as a result of injuries he sustained in the wreck as well.
Additionally, Eduardo Arias Santana, 34, of El Dorado was killed on April 3 in an accident on Highway 70 in Saline County.
