The Liberty Cemetery Association will hold its annual business meeting today at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Liberty Methodist Church at 4314 Ouachita 2 in Louann, Arkansas. All people with an interest in the cemetery are encouraged to attend.

Genealogical Society to meet

The Union County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Barton Library on Fifth Street. The society’s monthly meetings are open to the public and anyone with an interest in genealogy or local history is invited. This month’s guest speaker will be Michael Gunter, who has done research on his own families from the area: the Andrews, Days, Gunters and Kennedys.

Gunter is a native of Strong, Arkansas who works as an MRI Technologist at the Medical Center of South Arkansas and especially enjoys researching his grandfathers. He and his wife, Kristi Gunter, have two children and one grandchild.

Being fairly new to genealogical research, Gunter will offer a fresh prospective on getting started with researching one’s own family history. While he will share about his own findings, Gunter will also host an interactive discussion with attendees on what they have learned about their own families during their research.
