Edward Jones to host free virtual investor’s seminar

Edward Jones of El Dorado is hosting a virtual seminar entitled “Rules of the Road” on Thursday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m.

“Why are some people more successful investors than other,” reads an Edward Jones flyer on the upcoming seminar. “Luck? Probably not. Do they know a ‘secret’? Definitely not – because there are no real secrets to investing. But there are rules you can follow to work toward your goals.”

“Investor education is very important to making informed decisions,” Victoria Young, financial advisor for Edward Jones and seminar host, said. “It is really important to Edward Jones to give free education to those that probably wouldn’t be able to get it any other way.”

Young said the seminar is normally held in-person, but because of the ongoing pandemic, this seminar will be virtual. But, she said, there is a positive side to having to put the discussion online this year.

“This is actually better,” Young said. “More people will be able to attend and if someone is getting off of work at five o’clock, then they will be able to get home or settle down and join the seminar. So I actually think it has changed for the better.”

The seminar also comes at a time when there is a high demand for investor knowledge. Earlier this year, the retailer GameStop’s stock surge on Wall Street caused an uproar after the online content aggregator Reddit’s “WallStreetsBets” forum encouraged users to buy up GameStop stock.

Investment apps like Grifin, which automatically invests a dollar in the companies users shop, was vaulted into the top 15 of app stores earlier this month according to Cheddar.com

“There does seem to be a higher demand from the general population,” Young said. “Depending on the media or sources people are getting their information from, they could be more misinformed than informed. So we really want to help them have access to the right information.”

Young also said Edward Jones will be having seminars similar to this once a month and encouraged local residents to check out her Edward Jones’ social media accounts, as she posts free financial advice and information daily.

The seminar will last between 30-40 minutes and some time will be left at the end for a question and answer session, Young said. She also said she encourages anyone that wants more information or feels something they wanted addressed was not during the seminar to set up an appointment with her at her office.
