Nevada tops Strong in regional semifinals

EMERSON – The third time proved not to be the charm for Strong on Friday night, as the Bulldogs fell to Nevada 78-33 in the semifinals of the 4-1A Regional Tournament.

The Bulldogs (8-7), who are the 8-1A’s No. 3 seed and clinched a spot in the state tournament with a 58-54 win over Blevins on Thursday, will take on conference rival Bradley in the third-place game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Nevada, the defending 1A state champions and 8-1A league champions, take on Kirby in the regional final at 7 p.m.

The win was Nevada’s third in as many games over the Bulldogs this season.

Emauri Newton had 11 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Fred Williams also scored 11 points while adding four rebounds in the contest.
