Parkers Chapel School Board members face challengers in upcoming election

The deadline to register as a candidate for the May 18 local school board elections was Monday and two incumbents, both members of the Parkers Chapel School Board, will face challengers.

Emily Carelock, current president of the Parkers Chapel Board, Position 5, will face a challenge from Lisa Murray and Grace Palculict, current board secretary, Position 4, will face a challenge from Kristina Madison, according to information provided by Election Commission chairman Cliff Wright.

Smackover incumbent school board member Cliff Preston will run as a write-in candidate; he did not provide the number of signatures required when he filed as a candidate, Wright said.

All other school board candidates will run unopposed and present on the ballot.

Unopposed candidates who filed to run include Wayne Gibson, current incumbent for the El Dorado School Board in Zone 1, and Vicky Dobson, current incumbent for the El Dorado School Board in Zone 6.

Bobby E. Bryan, current incumbent for the Junction City School School Board for Zone 4, will also face no opponent.

Thursday, the Union County Election Commission will draw for ballot positions for the two opposed races at 1 p.m. at the Union County Courthouse.

Early voting is set to begin on May 11 and end on May 17 and polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.
