The Champagnolle Landing Senior Wellness Center will be having its reopening on Tuesday, July 6, after being closed since March 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It has been about 15 months since seniors have been here,” Barbara Warrick, wellness center director, said. “We did wellness checks on the seniors during the pandemic and we kept getting questions like, when are we going to reopen and how much they missed coming.”

Warrick shared some of the feelings seniors shared with her from not having access to the wellness center or to a lot of the outside world in general.

”We found and heard that a lot of the seniors felt lonely and depressed,” Warrick said. “They missed being able to see and visit people like they normally would have and have that needed human interaction.”

According to Warrick, there will still be some guidelines that seniors and visitors will need to follow in conjunction with COVID protocols. Champagnolle Landing Senior Wellness Center will be following a lot of the established guidelines by the Centers for Medicare, Medicaid Services (CMS) as well as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

“We’re still going to be asking people to wear their masks,” Warrick said. “We will be consistently sanitizing tables and equipment.”

The wellness center offers activities such as bingo, dominoes, puzzles, cards and other games. They also have a full gym with showers and lockers, a computer room, library books and a pool room with monthly pool tournaments and monthly domino tournaments.

One of the popular draws for the center, Warrick said, is the hot lunch they serve from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

“We are excited,” Warrick exclaimed. “We can’t wait for July 6 to get here and for seniors to get back.

Champagnolle Landing is located at 910 Champagnolle Road and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
