Margaret Ruth Ables Alphin, 85 of Norphlet passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021.

Margaret was born on May 12, 1936 in Gladewater, Tx., to Edna (Amazing) Grace Fariss Ables and Elza David (Shorty) Ables.

At age 3, Margaret lived in Schuler, AR while Dad worked for Phillips in the Smackover Oil Field. At age 4, Dad was called back to work by Pillips after a short lay-off. Mom, Dad and Margaret Ruth resided at the Rickenbacker Motel in Smackover, AR. Parents soon bought a house in Smackover Oil Field on the Palm lease for $25.00. They added a room now and then. The house had tin walls and a tin roof. At age 6, Margaret started to school at Norphlet in 1942 with Don Raymond Alphin. They rode the school bus together and graduated together in 1954. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954, serving for 2 years. Margaret began college at Southern State. In 1955, Margaret was a counselor at Joyzelle Priate Girls camp in Montanal, AR. , where she was the Archery instructor, never turning loose and arrow. She only showed girls how to stand with feet parallel to the target and how to draw the arrow. Don and Margaret were married in Seadrift, TX., October 25, 1957, where Margaret taught 5th grade. She later taught at Norphlet and Smackover teaching various subjects (Art, Music, Speech, English, Literature). Her last 11 years teaching were spent at Junction City where she taught Art and Speech. In 1995 Margaret was named Arkansas Elementary Art Teacher of the year.

Margaret played the organ and piano at First Baptist Church Norphlet for many years.

Margaret was preceded in death by her father Elza David Ables, mother Edna Grace Fariss Ables, Brother David Ables. Margaret is survived by two daughters: Dohnna Williams (Rob) of Norphlet, Lauralyn Ramsey (Howard) of Smackover, one grandson, Taylor Ramsey of Smackover and one sister-in-law, Arlene Ables of Kingman, AZ.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 26 at First Baptist Church Norphlet. Visitation at 10 followed by service at 11 a.m.
