Drillers downed by Red Raiders

The El Dorado Drillers lost their third straight to start the season on Friday, falling to Winnsboro (La.) 13-5 to complete pool play at the Ameriprise Invitational at the El Dorado-Union County Recreation Complex.

The Drillers scored two runs in the first and one in the second to take an early 3-1 lead, but the Red Raiders tied the game with two runs in the third before reclaiming the lead with five runs in the fifth.

The Drillers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 8-5, but the Red Raiders padded their lead with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to make the final margin.

Hunter Lawrence went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base and scored twice for the Drillers.

Rhett Richardson went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI and scored a run, while Holden Lowry went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Jonah Davis was 1-for-1 with a walk, a stolen base and scored a run, while Daniel Roblee finished 1-for-2 and scored a run to round the Drillers’ attack.

Xorian Robinson took the loss after allowing the five runs in the fifth with only two being earned. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out two.

Davis allowed five runs with only two being earned in two innings of work. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out one.

Trey Murphy, the Drillers’ starter, surrendered three runs with just one being earned over four innings. He walked one and struck out two.
