Police sirens.

An East Camden man is being held on a $100,000 bond on a rape charge after he allegedly assaulted a woman in her home in February.

According to court documents, on February 23, a woman reported a sexual assault to Camden Police, alleging that Martavious Shelton, 29, of East Camden assaulted her at her home.

Documents state that the woman told police Shelton, who had previously done some work at her home, showed up about two weeks before she made the report asking if she had any work he could do; when she told him no, she said, he asked to borrow a lighter, and proceeded to follow her inside her home when she went to search for matches for him.

The woman told police that once inside her home, Shelton exposed himself to her, then ordered her onto the floor, according to court records. She said he left the room for moment, and she feared he was fetching a weapon.

She said when Shelton returned, he raped her, according to court documents.

Records say that the victim told police she didn’t report the alleged assault sooner because Shelton told her he wouldn’t be arrested due to developmental conditions he said he suffered from.

According to court records, when Shelton was in custody at the CPD, as the charges against him were being explained to him, the suspect said, “That old woman? She made that happen.”

Shelton is currently being held at the Ouachita County Detention Center.
