No injuries were reported in a two-car accident that took place on Hillsboro Street around 8 p.m. Monday evening, though two ambulances did respond to the incident.

A gray SUV that was headed west on Hillsboro struck a black hatchback as the latter pulled out onto Hillsboro from the EZ Mart at 400 W. Hillsboro shortly after 8 p.m.

The SUV also struck a utility pole as it ran off the road near the intersection of Hillsboro and Russell streets. Chris Wasson, customer service representative for Entergy, said the pole belonged to a communication company; the News-Times could not reach a representative from AT&T or Suddenlink to find out the status of the telephone pole.

The black hatchback came to rest after the wreck in the center of Hillsboro Street, while the SUV continued toward the El Dorado Latin Market, across the street from the EZ Mart, and came to rest at another utility pole positioned along the side of the shop. Wasson noted that none of Entergy’s facilities in El Dorado were damaged.

El Dorado Fire Chief Jason Evans confirmed Tuesday that no one was injured seriously in the accident. He said four El Dorado Fire Department vehicles responded to the accident — Battalion 1, the EFD SUV driven by the shift commander; Rescue 1, the fire truck from the Central Station downtown; and Medic 2 and 3, the ambulances — which he said is typical for a car accident.

Firefighters could be seen after the wreck pouring sand around the right front tire of the SUV, where fluid appeared to be leaking.

“Basically, if there’s leaking fluids — radiator fluids or oil or something like that — we use the sand and it kind of just binds the liquid together, makes it so it’s not slick,” Evans explained.

El Dorado Police also responded to the accident. The EPD’s public information officer was out of the office Tuesday and unavailable, and other officers did not respond to additional media inquiries about the wreck.

Traffic on Hillsboro was blocked off for about an hour in front of the EZ Mart.

Several people gathered in front of the EZ Mart after the accident said they heard the wreck from inside the store.

“She must have been watching Demolition Derby,” said one man outside the store, describing one of the vehicles involved in the wreck.
