Second pizza delivery driver reportedly robbed at gunpoint

A local pizza delivery driver was reportedly beaten and robbed Wednesday night, two weeks after a similar incident occurred with another driver from a different restaurant.

Officers were called just before 11 p.m. Wednesday to Domino’s Pizza, 1300 N. West Ave., in reference to a robbery.

An employee told police that he delivered pizza to a residence in the 2200 block of Lakeland and upon seeing that the lights were off, he called the customer’s phone number that appeared on the receipt.

The complainant said the customer asked him to deliver the food a residence in the 400 block of Hudson.

He said he agreed to the request and as he approached the front door of the Hudson Steet residence, three males emerged from the left side of the building, ran toward him and attacked him.

The delivery driver told police that one of the suspects held what was believed to be a handgun in his pocket and appeared to be pointing the gun at him.

He also said the suspect warned him against making any “sudden movements.”

He said that when the suspects began striking him with closed fists, he surrendered cash and food, totaling $34.47, and ran to his vehicle, leaving behind his pizza delivery bag, hat and eyeglasses.

The complainant then returned to the Domino’s store and called police.

Police said the victim’s nose and mouth were bleeding and his clothes were torn and muddy. During a search, police said they recovered the items that were left at the scene by the delivery driver.

The suspects were described as black males who wore masks. The suspect who was believed to have been armed wore a black hoodie and the suspect who initiated the attack wore a gray hoodie, the victim said.

It was the second such incident to be reported this month in El Dorado.

On Jan. 8, a Pizza Hut delivery driver told officers that he was robbed at gunpoint while making a delivery to a residence in the 1000 block of East Oak Street.

He said two suspects approached him and ordered him “to put the pizza down on the ground.” The suspects stole two medium pizzas and 12 buffalo wings.

A witness reported the incident to police. No arrests have been made.

The suspects were described as black males who appeared to be teens.

One of the suspects had a light complexion and wore a mask and the other suspect, who brandished a handgun, had a darker complexion and wore a black hoodie, according to a police report.

Burglary

Police are investigating a burglary and theft of more than $12,200 worth of equipment that were reported earlier this week at Game Changer Sports Academy, 2886 N. West Ave.

The business owner told police Jan. 18 that someone broke into the building and stole a golf simulator, two computers, 100 baseballs, 100 softballs, three sets of golf clubs, batting tees and golf balls, the value of which totaled $12,275.

The business had closed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions and the complainant said she discovered the burglary when she checked on the building.

The owner of the building told police that earlier this month he granted permission for a man who had loaned money to the business to retrieve property that was believed to have been purchased with the loan.

The property owner made statements indicating that he did not know if the man had retrieved the property.

The complainant noted that the loan was used for a renovation project at Game Changer and not for equipment purchases, noting that due to the closure of the business, payments on the loan had gone into default.
