Arrests made over weekend in relation to domestic disturbance, drugs

Two arrests were made over the weekend in connection to a domestic disturbance in which a man and a woman reportedly received minor injuries during an altercation.

Demarcus L. Scott, 40, and Desmonai D. Scott, 20, are scheduled for first appearance hearings Wednesday in 35th Judicial District Court on felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the incident.

They were taken into custody Jan. 16 after El Dorado police responded at 2:42 p.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance at the East Main residence.

Upon arrival, police said they saw Desmonai sitting near the front door, yelling and rocking “back and forth” and as they approached her, she began “walking around” and appeared to be foaming at the mouth.

They said Desmonai refused to provide any information and continued yelling when they tried to speak with her.

Demarcus then came to the door and identified himself and Desmonai, police said. He did not clarify the pair’s relationship.

Police said Demarcus motioned toward his right arm and they noticed blood on his arm. Officers said they also noticed a large scrape and blood on Desmonai’s right hand after they detained her.

Desmonai told officers that she and Demarcus began fighting during an argument and he “charged at her with a pocketknife.”

She said she grabbed the knife from him, cutting her right hand in the area between her thumb and index finger.

She said Demarcus went outside the residence at one point and when she locked the door, he kicked it in.

Demarcus told officers that he was attempting to “keep (Desmonai) away from” his residence due to previous altercations between the two, noting that she is not allowed at the residence.

Police noted old injuries on Demarcus’s right arm and he said he had sustained the injuries during past fights with Desmonai.

Demarcus said the pair began arguing immediately when Desmonai arrived at the residence and it was Desmonai who kicked in the door and injured herself in the process.

Both were taken into police custody and during a search incident to arrest, police said they found a glass pipe with white residue inside Desmonai’s purse.

Officers did not report finding a knife on the scene.

Demarcus was arrested for aggravated assault on a family or household member — a felony.

Desmonai faces a felony charge of residential burglary and misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault of a family or household member and possession of instruments of crime.

A routine traffic stop the same day led to the arrest of another El Dorado man on two felony charges.

Johnny L. Yarbery, 64, is also expected to make his first appearance in district court Wednesday for possession of methamphetamine and a Union County Sheriff’s Office warrant for theft by receiving.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., police said they saw a vehicle without headlights traveling east on South Flenniken. Officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Hillsboro and Flenniken and identified Yarbery as the driver.

Yarbery was taken into custody after police learned about the active UCSO arrest warrant.

During an open-air detection “sniff”, a police dog alerted officers to the passenger side of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle yielded a bag containing approximately four grams of methamphetamine. Police said the bag was inside a cigarette box that was between the front seats.
