Program commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today

A celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and work is set for 11 a.m. today on the east side of the Union County Courthouse.

The title and theme of the event is “Still Climbing.” Speakers include The Rev. Daniel Willis, El Dorado Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer, City Council member Willie McGhee, Erica Hinton and Jacarllus Hill.

City offices to close Monday

All administrative offices of the city El Dorado, including the police and fire departments, will be closed today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Police and fire services will operate as usual.

This week, the city’s curbside garbage collection service will run a day behind the normal schedule. Sanitation crews will start with Ward 1 on Tuesday and end with Ward 4 on Friday.

Courthouse closed

The Union County Courthouse will be closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
