El Dorado plays Magnolia in benefit softball game

MAGNOLIA – El Dorado’s softball team got back on the field Thursday, playing a benefit game at Magnolia. It was the first game in 50 weeks for the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Panthers broke open a 7-7 tie in the sixth inning and would outscore El Dorado 10-7.

“It was great to be able to get out on the field again to face another school,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “After the COVID-shortened season, we needed this experience to prepare for the regular season. We saw some positives and negatives during the game, so we have some things to celebrate and things to improve on.”

After Magnolia scored three runs in the bottom of the second, El Dorado answered in the top of the third with a two-out rally. Raielynn Fudge singled and scored on Cammie Gadberry’s RBI triple off the wall in left-center. Delaney Loyd scored Gadberry with a single.

Magnolia led 7-3 going into the top of the sixth inning. El Dorado got a one-out hit from Samantha Hargett. The Lady Cats recorded four consecutive hits with singles from Jill Tissue and Makaylen Swint (RBI). Fudge hit a two-run double and Loyd followed with another RBI single to tie the game at 7-7.

The bottom of the sixth saw Magnolia re-take the lead for good on a two-out double by Olivia Munn.

For El Dorado, Karlee Otwell and Tissue both went 2-for-2. Fudge was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Loyd was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hargett was 1-for-3 and Gadberry had a RBI triple.

The Lady Wildcats will host Crossett on Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m.
