DONALDSON – It’s been a busy but very profitable week for Smackover’s boys basketball team.

After downing West Side Christian at the Warrior Classic on Monday, the Bucks made their week a perfect one by winning the Herb Russell Tournament at Ouachita by topping the hosts 58-41 in the championship game on Wednesday.

D’Kylan Hildreth had 17 points and Jarius Burgie added 10 points in the win.

In the semifinals on Tuesday, the Bucks got past Murfreesboro 43-30.

Hildreth had 18 points to lead the way with Brandon Lockhart chipping in with 10 points.

After winning three games in three days, the Bucks (6-4) will be idle until resuming conference play next Tuesday at Dumas.

HOT SPRINGS – Earlier this month, the Bulldogs and Red Devils played a thriller on the gridiron in the 2A 8-Man state championship game, and the schools played another on the hardwood on Wednesday.

Fred Williams led three players in double figures with 19 points, as the Bulldogs got a late stop on defense to seal the victory.

Byron Maze had 12 of his 15 points in the second half, while LaQuincy Shelton, the MVP of the state finals in Strong’s state title win, added 12 points.

Strong (2-2) will be idle until next Tuesday when they travel to Dermott for a conference clash.
