El Dorado's Jones, Rester receive awards

LITTLE ROCK - Farm Bureau Insurance announced the winners for the 2021 Farm Bureau Insurance Awards Monday night.

The Farm Bureau Insurance Awards honor Arkansas' top offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year for each classification.

The veteran staff at Hooten's Arkansas Football selects three finalists for each category, and those 45 finalists and their families were invited to attend Monday's ceremony. El Dorado was the lone school from Union County to have finalists.

El Dorado quarterback Sharmon Rester was a finalist for 7A/6A Offensive Player of the Year with Cabot's Braden Jay winning the award.

Rester, a senior, completed 179-of-290 passes for 3,537 yards and 41 touchdowns. He also rushed for 935 yards and 10 touchdowns.

El Dorado coach Steven Jones was a finalist for 7A/6A Coach of the Year  with Bryant's Buck James winning the award.

Jones guided the Wildcats to the 6A state title earlier this month.

Farm Bureau Insurance has supported education and community involvement in Arkansas for more than 70 years.
