Junction City opens season with win over Smackover

FORDYCE - Ryan Allen had 17 points, as Junction City opened their season on the hardwood with a 42-33 win over Smackover in a battle between Union County rivals in the opening round of the FBT Bank & Mortgage Classic on Monday.

Kamarian Dade chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds, while Jamal Johnson added eight points and four rebounds for the Dragons (1-0), who take on Camden Fairview today at 5 p.m.

D’Kylan Hildreth had nine points for the Bucks (2-1).

FORDYCE - Junction City’s senior girls downed Dollarway 39-19 Monday in the Fordyce Tournament. The Lady Dragons improved to 1-1 on the season and hosted Hampton Tuesday.

Junction City led 21-17 at the half and held Dollarway to two free throws in the second half.

Allie Thurmon led the Lady Dragons with 19 points.

“We came out and played hard. We played better in the second half,” said Coach Henry Harrell. “We missed quite a few free throws and layups in the first half. We put it together in the second half.”
