Trojans hold off Dragons

TEXARKANA - Trace Shoup was a one-man wrecking crew on Wednesday, as the senior homered while turning in a terrific outing out of the bullpen to lift Parkers Chapel past Genoa Central 6-5.

Shoup, who signed with LSU-Eunice, hit a solo homer in the first and added an RBI single in the fourth, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the win. He also scored two runs.

Shoup took over on the mound in the third with the Trojans trailing 3-2.

The senior went the rest of the way, allowing three hits and two unearned runs in five innings of work. He walked three and struck out eight to pick up the win.

The Trojans took the lead for good in the fourth thanks to Shoup’s aforementioned RBI single and a two-run double by Austin Looney.

Looney went 3-for-4 in the win for the Trojans.

PC led 5-3 until the seventh when they tacked on what turned out to be a huge insurance run, as the Dragons scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to make the final margin.

The bottom of the order made a big contribution for the Trojans, as Blake Caldwell had a triple, a walk and scored a run, while Spencer Frisby had a single and a walk and Caleb Barnes drove in two runs, scored one run and had one hit in the contest.

Parkers Chapel returns to 8-2A play today when they travel to Spring Hill.
