Man arrested after alleged attack; attack suspect unable to be located

An El Dorado man was arrested early Thursday morning on a misdemeanor offense after he called 911 to report that a relative attacked him with what is believed to have been a pickaxe.

Demarcus L. Scott, 40, faces a charge of violation of a no-contact order, which had previously been filed against the person suspected of attacking him, police said.

Officers responded just after midnight to a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 1300 block of Wilson. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.

Scott told officers he was lying in bed when a female relative began arguing with him. He said she picked up an item that resembled a pickaxe and struck him in the leg with it.

Scott said he then exited the house and called 911.

He was transported to Medical Center of South Arkansas, where he was treated for a puncture wound to his right leg and a laceration to the big toe on his right foot.

Scott was then taken into custody and released on a citation to appear today in 35th Judicial District Court for violating the no-contact order against the suspect.

Officers said they were unable to locate the suspect, who also has an active no-contact order against Scott.

Endangering the welfare of a minor

Two people were arrested Wednesday for endangering the welfare of a minor in unrelated incidents.

Jose L. E. Reyes, 26, of El Dorado, is scheduled to appear today in district court for a felony charges of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and misdemeanor charges of DWI and refusal to submit to a Blood Alcohol Concentration test.

While on routine patrol at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, officers conducted a traffic stop after noticing a taillight was out on a vehicle that was traveling south on Timberlane near Robert E. Lee/Haynesville Highway.

Police said Reyes, the driver of the vehicle, appeared intoxicated, noting that his speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol.

They also said that when Reyes exited the vehicle, he was unsteady on his feet and leaned against a police car to steady himself.

Police said Reyes failed three field sobriety tests and failed to complete a preliminary breath test.

A 16-year-old boy, a relative of Reyes, was a passenger in the front seat of the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, police said.

Reyes was taken into custody after refusing to comply with officers’ requests to call a licensed driver to the scene to drive him home and take possession of his vehicle.

Police said he also refused to take a BAC test, according to a police report. Reyes was issued a citation to appear in district court.

A second person was arrested Wednesday on a similar charge after officers responded to a report of a small child running in the street in the 600 block of South Parkway.

Odesiree S. May, 35, of Inglewood, California, was taken into custody for second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor.

Officers arrived on the scene at 6:45 p.m. and spoke with a woman, who said she was working in a salon in the area when the child, a 2-year-old boy, knocked on the door of the business.

She said that when she opened the door, the boy ran across the street and began knocking on the door of an abandoned house.

The complainant said she chased after the boy, who continued running east on South Parkway and was nearly struck by several vehicles.

She also said she stopped several passers-by and asked if they recognized the boy but none of the people she stopped knew him.

A witness corroborated the woman’s account of the incident.

After speaking with the complainant for approximately 10 minutes, police said they received a call that a child had gone missing from a residence in the 700 block of South Parkway.

A woman who said she is related to May, the boy’s mother, told police that the boy had been playing with other children in the front room of the residence while the adults were in another room at the rear of the residence. She noted that May and the boy are from out of town.

May acknowledged that the children had been left unsupervised inside the residence and her son had opened the door and crossed College Avenue.

She was cited to appear in district court on April 19.
