Trojans get past Billies

PARKERS CHAPEL - Trace Shoup turned in a solid pitching performance, and Parkers Chapel got hits from seven players, as the Trojans topped Monticello 9-3 Saturday.

A senior who has signed with LSU-Eunice, Shoup allowed just two hits over six innings to pick up the win.

Of the three runs he allowed, only one was earned. He walked four and struck out eight.

Reid Cates allowed one hit in a scoreless seventh to finish off the Billies.

The visitors opened the scoring with a run in the second, but the Trojans responded with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead before winning by the final margin.

Shoup also helped himself by going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in the win. He scored two runs.

Mason Dougan went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Wyatt New drove in two runs, finishing 1-for-3.

Austin Looney was 1-for-1 with three walks, while Cates, Chris Greer and Blake Caldwell all had one hit in the win.

Caldwell added an RBI for the Trojans, who hosted Fordyce on Monday in an 8-2A conference game, and will also host Ouachita today in non-conference action.
