Strong falls to Carlisle

MURFREESBORO - A big second quarter proved to be Parkers Chapel’s undoing, as Murfreesboro rallied to top the Trojans 36-22 Friday night.

The Trojans led 8-6 at the end of the first period, but the Rattlers outscored the visitors 24-8 in the second period to lead 30-16 at intermission.

The Trojans pulled to within 30-22 in the final stanza, but would get no closer.

Edison Thompson finished with 155 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries with Trace Shoup adding 75 yards on 11 carries to lead the Trojans’ ground game.

Shoup finished 9-of-18 passing for 90 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

After catching two touchdown passes last week against Magnet Cove, Lancer Clark had five catches for 47 yards and a score against the Rattlers.

Sloan Perrin ran for two scores while finishing 15-of 25 passing for 155 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the win.

Jase Kuykendall had 75 yards and a score on 19 carries while adding seven catches for 43 yards for the Rattlers.

Brendan Stevens added a touchdown on the ground and Ketrick Dennis caught Perrin’s touchdown pass.

The Trojans (1-4), who lost their third straight, are idle next week before hosting Bearden in their conference opener on Oct. 9.

The Rattlers (2-3) will host Cutter-Morning Star next week.

STRONG FALLS ON ROAD

CARLISLE - Strong couldn’t follow their successful debut from two weeks ago, falling at Carlisle 60-0 Friday night. The Bison led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and 36-0 at halftime before winning by the final margin.

The Bulldogs (1-1), who downed Lake Village in their season opener, will play at Mineral Springs next week.

The Bison (1-3) will host Fordyce next week.
