Spring Hill nips Parkers Chapel to win boys championship

Parkers Chapel’s boys went for the three-peat Monday and came up one shot short. Spring Hill’s top two golfers shot a combined 172 to lead the Bears to a team score of 290 to the Trojans’ 291 in the 2A-6 Golf Tournament, played at the Lion’s Club.

Spring Hill’s Colin Purifoy shot 80 to win medalist. His teammate Chris Hernandez fired a 92.

Parkers Chapel was led by Reid Cates with an 84. Jackson Ellerbe shot 101 with Spencer Frisby shooting 106 and Caleb Barnes 115. The top three scores counted in the team totals.

“Clearly we didn’t play our best because we beat Spring Hill every time we played them this year,” said PC coach Mona Williams. “Their number two boy played the best round I’ve ever seen him play. Spring Hill’s number one boy, probably, played the best round I’ve ever seen him play. When their one and two play their best round and my team doesn’t play its best round, you’re looking at, probably, not pulling it off.

“I really thought we were going to for a while. Once we started on the last nine, it started looking like, maybe, that wasn’t going to happen.”

Caddo Hills shot 314 to finish third ahead of Horatio (336), Junction City (338) and Foreman (450).

Jacob Orr led the Dragons with 103 followed by Coyt Sellers (106) and Slade Wilson (119).
