Lady Trojans claim conference title

Parkers Chapel’s girls were singing in the rain Monday after a dominating performance in the 2A-6 Golf Tournament. The Lady Trojans shot 298 to win the championship by a whopping 69 strokes on the rain-soaked Lion’s Club course.

Freshman Bella Frisby and senior Hannah Brotherton led the way with the top two scores in the field. Frisby won medalist with a 91 with Brotherton shooting 95. Franzi Kahlert shot 112 and Reaux McAuliffe finished with a 127.

The top three scores counted in the team totals.

“My senior posted a 95. Last year she shot 123. So, she really showed some leadership and mental toughness and helped her team out a lot today,” said Coach Mona Williams. “They just all contributed and did their best. When they would see the other girls in passing or whatever in the fairways. They would look at each other and say, ‘Come on, we’ve got to do this.’ It was kind of neat to watch.”

Spring Hill (367) was a distant second followed by Horatio (369), Caddo Hills (418) and Foreman (443).

The tournament, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved up a day due to the weather.

For Frisby, her season of consistency and solid play continued. The ninth grader emerged as the team’s top player at the start. Her play never wavered, especially during the tournament on Monday.

“She had to maintain some emotional control along the way because she expects a lot of herself,” Williams said. “She talked to herself the whole way and kept herself under control so that she could shoot as well as possible. Of course, it’s not what her goal was but she did well.”

The 2A State Tournament will be held next week at Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend.

“I’m very excited, very proud of them,” said Williams. “It’s the first time I think we’ve won in nine or 10 years. They were really excited about going to state.”
