Parkers Chapel falls to Magnet Cove

PARKERS CHAPEL - Prior to their clash on Friday night, Parkers Chapel and Magnet Cove hadn't played one another in three years, and the drama the series has produced through the years returned with the schools playing another hard-fought game that wasn't decided until the final seconds.

Trace Shoup ran for two scores and threw for two more, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans fell to the Panthers 36-30 at Victor Nipper Stadium.

The Panthers snapped the Trojans' three-game winning streak in the series while also cutting PC's lead in the rivalry to 5-4.

Friday's contest was the sixth in the series to be decided by 13 points or less.

Three years ago in their previous meeting, the Trojans overcame a 12-point deficit to stun the Panthers, and they had the opportunity to repeat the feat on Friday.

Trailing 36-24, Shoup scored on a 5-yard run with 5:53 to play in the game to make it 36-30.

The Trojans' defense then forced a turnover, giving PC the ball back with 2:50 to play.

However, the Trojans themselves turned the ball over on an interception, and the Panthers were able to run the clock out.

Shoup threw touchdown passes of 55 and 33 yards to Lancer Clark while adding a 50-yard touchdown run for the Trojans.

Edison Thompson added a 4-yard touchdown run for the Trojans, who trailed 18-12 at intermission.

Both schools will venture into the 7-2A for their non-conference meetings next week.

Magnet Cove (3-1), who bounced back after falling to Glen Rose last week, will host Dierks.

The Trojans (1-3), who lost their second straight, will travel to Murfreesboro next week.
