The Smackover-Norphlet school district has a confirmed COVID-19 case, according to a statement issued on Thursday by Superintendent Jason Black on the district’s Buckaroo Blog.

According to Black’s letter, “school administration has followed response protocols issued by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and contacted the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH).

”At this point, students and staff who came into close proximity with the individual will be notified by a nurse or school administration, and facilities will be disinfected and sanitized.

“As we continue to work through these situations together, know that Smackover-Norphlet School District will be transparent if and when these situations occur,” Black said in the letter.

The district did not release any identifying information about the positive case, including a specific school, due to HIPAA regulations and confidentiality rules, according to the letter.
