Sassy Red Fashion, in conjunction with the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Oct. 23. The fashion boutique is located at 1920 N. West Ave.

Many were in attendance for the ribbon cutting, including Ward 4 - Position 2 El Doado City Council candidate Kensel Green and State Senate District 27 candidate Keidra Burrell, as well as the family and friends of shop owner Karen Kendrix.

Kendrix said she was really pleased with the turnout.

“I’m so thankful that everyone came out. I was nervous about having this ribbon cutting but it turned out wonderful,” Kendrix said. Not wanting the additional attention of the ribbon cutting speaks to Kendrix’s humble but hard working nature.

She describes herself as a small town girl from Junction City and said she has been helping clients with fashion and wardrobe choices for close to a decade.

Her personal fashion sense is elegant and chic and she loves animal prints like leopard, she said. Within the store, shoppers will have their pick of animal prints, vibrant colors and numerous fashion accessories like hats, glasses, bags, scarves and more.

“I love to keep up with the latest trends. For example, bucket hats are back in and we have them here in the store. I love to offer customers the latest in fashion,” Kendrix said.

The News-Times has been covering the grand openings of local Black businesses in the area, including the growing number of Black women business owners. Kendrix joins a list that includes Kim Benson of Wildcat and Elite Nutrition and Jennifer Boddie of J-Bo’s Handbags. Being a new Black woman business owner means a lot to Kendrix.

“I want to serve the community, I want to give back to the community, so being a Black business owner means a lot to me,” Karen Kendrix shared.

Visitors and potential shoppers were greeted with water, snacks and a nice spread of assorted foods at the ribbon cutting. The shelves at Sassy Red Fashion are stocked and ensemble pieces hang on the racks ready to be purchased.

“I love it. I love fashion and I love helping people that love fashion. So please come in and see what we got,” Kendrix said.
