AAA extends dead period

The Arkansas Activities Association announced Friday on Twitter that due to growing concerns over the coronavirus, they have extended the dead period to April 17.

In their statement the AAA said, “With guidance from the Arkansas Department of Health, Governor’s Office and the Arkansas Department of Education the AAA will extend the dead period for all AAA member schools through April 17, 2020.

“The safety of our student athletes is our first priority. All decisions remain flexible and will be consistent with the advice of local, state and national officials.”

On Monday, the AAA announced a dead period that was to run through Monday, March 30.

In their statement on Monday, the AAA said, “During this time, coaches (licensed teacher coaches and registered volunteers) shall be prohibited from engaging in any type of activity involving student athletes, whether it be practice, training, weight lifting, tryouts, competition, or travel. Further, school athletic facilities will be closed during this period.”
