Newcomer wins by landslide in Strong

Latosha Gatson won in a landslide vote for Strong’s recorder/treasurer spot.

Union County Election Commission chairperson Janelle Williams announced Gatson received 111 votes to 22 over current Recorder/Treasurer Allison Howell, who has served in the position for about 14 years.

“I’m very excited,” Gatson said. “I plan to make sure everything is orgaOVERSET FOLLOWS:nized and if there’s any concerns the citizens have, I can speak on their behalf.”

Gatson, who holds a Bachelor’s in business administration, chose to run for Recorder/Treasurer to “be more involved with the economic standings and well being of our city, and to help make a difference in the lives of the concerned citizens of Strong, Arkansas,” she said in a questionnaire previously published in the News-Times.

Gatson currently works as an accounting assistant at the Murphy Oil Corporation.

She said she wants to focus on the future and the opportunities of growth within Strong.

“I believe a change can be made to how the citizens feel about our city,” she said in the questionnaire.
