Sheridan knocks down Oilers in Texarkana Tourney

The El Dorado Oilers dropped their first game at the Texarkana Tournament Saturday to Sheridan AA 5-2.

The Oilers (8-3) were scheduled to finish pool play Sunday against Sheridan’s AAA squad and Texarkana.

The Oilers pulled to within a run by scoring twice in the fifth, but Sheridan scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and the time limit in the game expired before the Oilers could get another shot.

In the fifth, Tyler Johnson led off by getting hit by a pitch and Rhett Richardson and Ty Disotell drew walks to load the bases.

With one out, Jackson Cook laced a 0-2 offering down the right-field line for a two-run double, but Disotell was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game.

Oilers starter Josh Saulsbury walked three and struck out three over 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed one hit.

Gabe Richard took the loss after allowing three runs with two being earned in 1 1/3 innings in relief. He walked three and didn’t record any strikeouts.

Baylor Brumley worked 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and two runs with one being earned. He walked one and struck out two.

Cook went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Tanner McLelland added a double and Johnson and Richardson each drew a walk and scored a run for the Oilers.
