Oilers stomp Timber Rattlers for first victory

The El Dorado Oilers picked up their first win of the 2020 season Friday night by cruising to a 15-6 win over the Ashley County Timber Rattlers at Crossett.

The Oilers had seven players finish with multi-hit games with Tanner McLelland, Jacob Eubanks, Baylor Brumley and Tyler Johnson all finishing with three hits in the win.

The Oilers (1-1) jumped out to a 3-1 lead before breaking the game open with a six-run second inning.

Jackson Cook started the rally with two outs by drawing a walk. Josh Saulsbury followed with a single to put runners at first and second, and a passed ball advanced both runners into scoring position.

McLelland then delivered a two-run single to extend the Oilers’ lead to 5-1.

Brumley followed with a base hit of his own, and Eubanks, Braden Doherty, Johnson and Rhett Richardson each had RBI singles to push the lead to 9-1.

The Timber Rattlers closed to within 9-5, but the Oilers answered by scoring twice in the fourth.

Doherty walked with one out and later scored on a base hit by Johnson, who later took second on a wild pitch and scored on Chase Brumley’s single.

The Oilers then put the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth.

With one out, Saulsbury and McLelland singled, and Baylor Brumley followed with an RBI single to make it 10-5.

Eubanks then drove in McLelland with a run-scoring single of his own. After advancing to second on a passed ball, Eubanks crossed the plate on an RBI single by Doherty.

Doherty stole second and scored the Oilers’ final run on Johnson’s third RBI single of the game.

Brumley opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single that scored McLelland, who doubled.

Brumley stole second and scored on a single by Eubanks to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.

Eubanks later scored on an RBI groundout by Doherty to cap the scoring in the first.

McLelland went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Eubanks was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Brumley went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Johnson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored for the Oilers.

Doherty finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs, Richardson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Saulsbury was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Chase Brumley and Cook each had one hit with the former collecting an RBI. A.J. Alsobrook stole two bases in the win with Hunter Lawrence also chipping in with a stolen base.

Ty Disotell was the beneficiary of the Oilers’ offensive onslaught.

Disotell scattered eight hits and allowed five runs with three being earned in three innings of work to pick up the win. He walked three and struck out three.

Johnson allowed two hits and one run in one inning in relief. He walked one and didn’t record any strikeouts.

Baylor Brumley finished the game with a hitless inning out of the bullpen. He walked one and struck out two.

The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the nightcap was rained out.

The Oilers will be back in action on Monday at 6 p.m. when they travel to Arkadelphia for a doubleheader.
