SHARE Foundation cancels annual golf tournament

Costs would outweigh funds raised, nonprofit says

The SHARE Foundation announced in a press release the cancelation of the 28th annual SHARE Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament. The event had been scheduled for September 19-20 at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club and Mystic Creek Golf Club.

“With so many unknowns due to COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s SHARE Benefit Golf Tournament,” SHARE Foundation Public Relations Manager Amanda Cooley said in a press release. “The economic impact on so many area businesses and non-profits is great and we realize that, while this fundraising event is so needed, it could not raise the income needed to support the expenses that would occur.”

Cooley said the tournament has raised $1,085, 538.60 for Interfaith Clinic since 1996, when the tournament was passed on to SHARE Foundation.

She said this year’s cancellation is a direct result of COVID-19.

“Yes, unfortunately there are too many unknowns at this point due to COVID-19. The health and safety of our community continues to be a top priority,” said Cooley.

She said the plan is for the tournament to return in 2021.

“During this difficult time, SHARE Foundation remains committed to its many programs and services. In order to do so, it is more important than ever that we continue to raise funds through avenues that allow social distancing. We are diligently seeking grant opportunities and other events and campaigns that will help us continue serving those in need in Union and surrounding counties,” she added.
