Active cases drop to 50 despite 11 new cases reported

The Arkansas Department of Health reported 11 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Union County Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of cases identified in the county to 361.

Of those, 296 were considered recovered Saturday, a significant increase of 20 from Friday. There were 50 active cases in the county Saturday, a decrease of nine from Friday. Active cases represented 13.85% of the county’s cumulative number of cases on Saturday.

There were no new local deaths attributable to the virus reported Saturday. Fifteen Union County residents have died as a result of COVID-19.

The ADH reported 91 new negative test results returned from Union County Saturday, indicating a one-day local positivity rate of 10.78% based on the number of test results and cases reported. In all, 4,148 COVID-19 test results have returned to the ADH from the county, with 3,787 negatives, indicating an overall local positivity rate of 8.7%.

The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Arkansas grew by 732 to reach 37,981 Saturday. Of those, 31,083 were considered recovered on Saturday, leaving 6,499 cases — 17.11% — active statewide. That’s a marked decrease in active cases from Friday, when there were 7,028 active cases; over 1,200 recoveries statewide were reported Saturday.

The deaths of five Arkansans that resulted from COVID-19 were reported Saturday, bringing the state’s death toll to 399, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.05%. The number of Arkansans hospitalized was 479 Saturday, a decrease of 18 from Friday, and the number on ventilator support was 105 Saturday, down four from Friday.

The ADH reported 8,934 new test results reported statewide Saturday, indicating a one-day positivity rate for the state of 8.19% based on the number of tests and cases reported. Since the state began testing for COVID-19, 470,398 tests have been reported to the ADH, with 432,417 negatives, indicating an overall state positivity rate of 8.07%.

Johns Hopkins University reported 4,167,663 COVID-19 cases in the United States at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday. Of those, 1,279,414 were considered recovered Saturday, leaving 2,741,932 cases — 65.79% — active nationwide. There had been 146,317 deaths attributable to the virus in the U.S. by Saturday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.51%.

According to Johns Hopkins, there were 15,914,581 COVID-19 cases worldwide Saturday afternoon. Of those, 9,183,399 were considered recovered Saturday, leaving 6,089,242 cases — 38.26% — active around the world. There had been 641,940 deaths attributable to the virus by Saturday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 4.03%.
