Oilers sweep doubleheader

It seems the El Dorado Oilers have recovered nicely from a tough weekend in Texarkana.

After dropping all three games last weekend, the Oilers find themselves with a four-game winning streak after sweeping Crossett by scores of 3-0 and 11-3 in a doubleheader Thursday at Junction City.

In the opener, Baylor Brumley and Ty Disotell collaborated on a three-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts, and the Oilers generated just enough offense with Jacob Eubanks singling home a run in the first before Rhett Richardson delivered a two-run single in the third.

Chase Brumley was a one-man wrecking crew in the nightcap, driving in five runs while picking up the win on the mound.

Jackson Cook and Richardson drove in two runs apiece in the win.

The Oilers struck early in the opener, denting the scoreboard with a run in the first.

Tanner McLelland led off with a double down the left-field line and stole third.

Baylor Brumley then walked and stole second to put runners at second and third, and Eubanks followed with a base hit to left to score McLelland with the game’s first run.

McLelland was also at the forefront of the Oilers’ rally in the third.

The Junction City standout drew a walk and stole second base to get into scoring position, and Brumley followed with a single to put runners at the corners.

Brumley then stole second, and the Oilers loaded the bases after Tyler Johnson legged out an infield single.

That set the stage for Richardson, who singled home McLelland and Brumley to give the Oilers a 3-0 edge.

Brumley and later Disotell took matters over from there.

Brumley, who evened his record at 1-1, racked up 11 strikeouts while allowing just one hit in five scoreless innings. He walked six and exited after throwing 94 pitches.

Disotell sealed the win with his first save, allowing two hits in two innings out of the bullpen. He didn’t issue any walks and struck out two.

Overall, the duo combined to leave eight baserunners stranded.

Brumley helped himself by going 2-for-2 with a walk, two stolen bases and one run scored in the win.

McLelland was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Richardson was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and two RBIs.

Eubanks was 1-for-3 with an RBI with Johnson and Disotell each finishing 1-for-3 and Cook was 1-for-2.

As was the case in the opener, the Oilers wasted no time in building a lead, scoring five runs in the opening inning.

McLelland led off with a double down the left-field line, and Hunter Lawrence drew a walk.

One out later, Johnson was hit by a pitch to load bases, and Richardson followed with a walk of his own to score McLelland.

With the bases reloaded, Chase Brumley promptly cleared them, rifling a three-run double off the left-field fence to give the Oilers a 4-0 lead.

Jordan Brock followed Brumley’s double with one of his own off the fence in left to pick up his first RBI of the season to make it 5-0.

The visitors scored single runs in the second and third innings to pull within 5-2, but the Oilers broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Lawrence led off with a walk and stole second.

After Disotell singled to put runners at the corners, Johnson reached on an infield single to load the bases.

Richardson drove in a run with an RBI groundout to second to make it 6-2.

With runners now at second and third, Brumley drilled a 1-1 pitch to left-center for a two-run double to extend the Oilers’ lead to 8-2.

Brumley later took third on a passed ball and scored on an RBI groundout to second by Preston Davis to push the lead to 9-2.

The Oilers capped their scoring in the fourth on a two-run single by Cook.

The Oilers loaded the bases after Lawrence walked, Johnson singled and Richardson reached on an error to set up Cook’s base hit to right-center.

Brumley upped his record to 2-0 after scattering five hits and two runs in three innings of work. He walked two and struck out five. Both runs Brumley allowed were earned.

Lawrence followed with a scoreless frame, allowing one hit with no walks and two strikeouts.

Brock, making his first pitching appearance in two years when he was with the El Dorado Drillers, allowed an unearned run in one inning of work.

He allowed one hit, struck out one and didn’t issue any walks.

Brumley was 2-for-2 with his aforementioned two doubles and five RBIs along with two runs scored to pace the Oilers.

Johnson was also 2-for-2, adding a walk and three runs scored, while Cook added a stolen base to go with his two-run single in the fourth, which gave the No. 6 spot in the Oilers’ lineup seven RBIs in the win coupled with Brumley’s performance.

McLelland was 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored, while Brock was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Disotell was 1-for-2 with one run scored.

Lawrence had three walks, scored three runs and had a stolen base with Richardson driving in two runs to give him four total in the doubleheader.

Davis had a walk and an RBI to round out the Oilers’ attack.

The Oilers (12-5) will be off until Tuesday when they head to Sheridan for a doubleheader.

Game time is set for 6 p.m.
