Elizabeth Mae Spain Sheridan, 61, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, in her home and childhood residence in Smackover. She was in Lifetouch Hospice, after being released from spending her last Christmas and New Year’s in Little Rock Baptist Hospital.

She was a gracious person and fought illnesses of heart disease and multiple sclerosis for almost 20 years.

Beth was a shining example of a Christian woman to everyone who met her and even those who didn’t. Better known as the “card lady” for over 10 years, she made cards for people in her church, family, and some members of the Smackover, El Dorado, and Camden communities. She never missed a birthday or anniversary for so many people, and she made time to send out thank you, sympathy, and thinking of you, and prayer cards until November 2019 when she became very ill.

She grew up in Smackover in the 1960’s, spending time with her cousins and learning everything she could from her mother and family. She graduated Smackover High School in 1976. She graduated cum laude from Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia in 1980. She received her degree in Business Administration in Computer Science with a minor in Marketing. She was a member of band in high school and college where she played clarinet.

After college, she worked for the State of Arkansas. In 1982, she began work for Rockwell Collins, in Richardson, Texas, and continued to work for them, from her home, until the day she passed away (38 years).

Beth was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000, which led back to Smackover in 2002. Despite her struggle with MS, she cared for her mother, and instantly extended her love to the community for the rest of her life.

She was a loving mother and grandmother, and always proud of her children. Most of all, she loved showing off her grandchildren and beloved dogs.

She was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Gladys (Lowery) Spain; sister Sue (Spain) Johnson; ex-husband, Michael Sheridan; and emotional support dog, Bella.

She is survived by daughter, Jennifer (Joseph) Kimble of Palestine, TX; son Jeff Sheridan of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Azalee and Carlos Sheridan and Charlotte Kimble; care giver: Nela and Dale Lotz, sister, Marilyn Harris; aunts Judy (David) Corley, Jane Spruill, and Laverne Bowden; uncle Johnny (Donna) Lowery; nieces Andrea (Marcus) Tantillo of Dickenson, TX, and Lauren Harris; nephew Greg (Cassandra) Harris; and many cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 10 a.m., February 1, at First Baptist Church of Smackover.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or First Baptist Church of Smackover.
