Editor’s Note: This is part of a series of Q&As getting to know members of places of worship. The series will later expand to city leaders, educators, first responders and more. A new feature will be published each Monday.

Pastor Pierce L. Moore grew up in the Baptist tradition and was called to the ministry 13 years ago. He now serves as the Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church – Cordell.

The church is preparing to celebrate their 150th anniversary this September. Pastor Moore told the News-Times about his faith and the church’s upcoming plans.

Q: Have you ever struggled with your faith?

A: There have been many times where my faith has been tested, but it has never caused me to doubt the faithfulness of God. The scripture teaches in Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”

Q: What does faith mean to you?

A: Trusting in the divine will of God in spite of not always understanding the ways of God.

Q: What is a typical service at First Baptist Cordell like?

A: Our worship services are always Christ-centered, which encompasses prayer, praise and preaching.

Q: Are there any topics you particularly like discussing with your congregation?

A: I like discussing discipleship because it deals with the totality of the believers’ relationship with the Lord.

Q: How would interested persons join First Baptist Cordell?

A: The Scripture teaches that whoever will let Him come and drink of the Water of Life freely; on that basis, our doors are open to all. Our focus is not to get people to join the church, but rather to enter into a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Based upon that relationship, they’ll become a part of not only a local church body, but the universal body of Christ.

Q: When are services?

A: worship services start at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday, and at noon and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. There are several other ministry-related things that occur during the week, but the aforementioned are specific to worship, prayer and Bible study.

Q: Do you have any events coming up?

A: This year, First Baptist Church – Cordell will be celebrating its 150th church anniversary. Everything that we’re doing this year is focused toward that event, which will be held the week of September 13th through 19th. Our theme for 2020 is Reclaim, Revive and Restore.

First Baptist Church – Cordell is located at 620 Cordell Ave. in El Dorado. The church’s motto is ‘We exist to evangelize the lost, reclaim the backslidden, edify the saved, minister to those in need and be the conscience of the community.’
