Smith elected to AHSCA Hall of Fame

Former Union coach Gary Don Smith will be inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of its 2020 class.

The Arkansas Activities Association made the announcement on Thursday.

Smith spent 25 of his 42 years coaching at Union, finishing with 704 victories at the senior high level.

Overall, he won 551 games at Union, including a Class B state crown in 1986, as well as 354 junior high wins.

He coached three years at Village and 14 at Hot Springs Lakeside, guiding teams in golf, baseball, softball, boys basketball and cross country.

The banquet will be held on Friday, July 10, at Horner Hall in the Hot Springs Convention Center.
