HAMPTON - A day after scoring a huge conference win on the road, Parkers Chapel didn’t suffer any letdowns, as the Trojans topped Hampton 69-55 in 8-2A play Tuesday.

After rallying past Fordyce in the final seconds of overtime on Monday, the Trojans led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and 35-21 at intermission.

The Trojans led 45-32 at the end of the third quarter before winning by the final margin.

Preston Stivender, who delivered the game-winning basket with eight seconds left at Fordyce, led the Trojans with 20 points.

Terrell Malone had 17 points and Evan Younger chipped in with 16 points. Caleb Jacobs added nine points in the win.

“I thought we played a really good first half,” Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley said.

“We got up 20 at one point in the third, and I felt like we got too comfortable and allowed Hampton to creep back into the ballgame.”

The Bulldogs sliced the Trojans’ lead to seven in the fourth quarter, but the visitors held on, giving Parkers Chapel a sweep of the two conference games after their 67-50 win back on Dec. 17.

“You’ve got to give Hampton credit. They never gave up and kept coming at us,” Langley said.

“We had to dig down and make some plays late in order to seal the game.”

The Trojans (11-6, 9-1) put the Bulldogs (1-14, 0-8) away by going 14-of-17 from the free-throw line in the final stanza.

“That helped us ice the game,” Langley said. “They continued to make shots on their end and we made free throws to keep them back.”

Winners of four straight, the Trojans will play their third game in four nights on Thursday when they host Lafayette County, looking for a season sweep.
