Local schools fall short with hosting bids

For the first time in three years, Union County will not be hosting any postseason events.

The Arkansas Activities Association announced on Thursday who would be hosting postseason tournaments this spring with local schools coming up empty in their efforts to host.

Junction City placed bids to host several events, including the baseball, softball and basketball regional tournaments.

However, Horatio will serve as the host for the 2A South baseball and softball regionals, while 8-2A rival Fordyce will host the regional for basketball.

Junction City was aiming to host the regional tournament for the second straight year.

Junction City also put in a bid for the 2A State Basketball Tournament, but Quitman was awarded the opportunity to host.

Smackover placed bids to host the regional and state tournaments in softball, but DeWitt will host the 4-3A Regional Tournament, while conference rival Ashdown is hosting the 3A State Tournament.
