Camp Fire El Dorado will host a public event geared towards mothers and daughters, ages fifth grade and older, on March 8, featuring guest speaker Kari Kampakis.
An author, blogger, speaker and newspaper columnist from Birmingham, Alabama, Kampakis is also a mom of four girls and author for teen girls. Her two books for teen and tween girls — "10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know" and "Liked: Whose Approval Are You Living For" — have been used across the country by teen youth groups and small groups to empower girls through faith. Kampakis' work has been featured on The TODAY Show, Proverbs 31, Yahoo! News, The Huffington Post and other national outlets.
Kampakis will walk the audience through the five things she says matter most in life's journey — from the relationships we choose to the longings deep in our souls, Kampakis will discuss living healthy, purposeful lives, enabling us find more joy, peace and meaning.
"Girls today get inundated with messages of who they should be and images of what they should look like," said Leanne Harrell, executive director of Camp Fire. "With all the noise, stimulation and influence of technology, it's become increasingly difficult to hear God's voice and live authentically — not identically to everyone else."
Kampakis will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8 at the College Avenue Church of Christ Family Life Center, 1817 N. College Ave, with a question-and-answer session to follow.
Tickets cost $10 per family and may be purchased prior to the event at the Camp Fire office, 915 Arkansas St., or at the door. Those purchasing tickets before March 2 will receive a copy of Kampakis' book "10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know."
