Junction City clinches spot in regional tournament

HAMPTON - It can be difficult to play the same team twice within the same week, but Junction City handled it with aplomb Wednesday night, as the Dragons knocked off Spring Hill 73-58 in the quarterfinals of the 8-2A District Tournament.

The Dragons (14-8), the No. 3 seed, ended the regular season last Friday with a come-from-behind 53-47 win at Spring Hill (12-15).

The win clinches a spot in the regional tournament for Junction City, who faces No. 2 seed Fordyce in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The Bears, the No. 6 seed, topped Bearden 48-39 Tuesday to advance to Wednesday’s rematch with the Dragons, but Junction City was able to build a double-digit lead in the second half and keep Spring Hill at bay.

Junction City had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures in the win.

Cam Frazier had 16 points to lead the Dragons, while Ryan Allen had 14 points and Harlandus Frazier and Zak Brown added 13 points apiece in the win.
