The El Dorado School Board held their last regular monthly meeting of 2020 on Dec. 14. A great chunk of the meeting focused on highlighting both the student and staff achievements of Washington Middle School.

ESD School Board member Wayne Gibson read and gave out awards to members of Washington Middle School:

Student of the Month – Kerrigan Shelton

Classified Employee of the Month – Angela Moore

Teacher of the Month - Victoria Bennett

Following Gibson, Washington Middle School Principal Bethanie Hale gave a report on how the school year has been going thus far at WMS.

Hale highlighted numerous student and staff achievements with pictures and anecdotes in a slideshow presented to those in attendance. She also talked in great length about the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has presented, but said she was extremely proud of how the faculty, students and families of Washington Middle School have met those challenges head on.

“‘In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.’ Albert Einstein said this, and I think the teachers at Washington Middle School and the staff have really taken this trying time and done incredible things,” Hale said.

Jason Sanders, an economics teacher at El Dorado High School, was also recognized and honored for being named a master economics teacher.

“Mr. Sanders has distinguished himself as a leader in his classroom and economic education. This is displayed in his classroom by him using economic opportunities in innovative ways and I’m very pleased that Mr. Sanders is now a master economics teacher. Congratulations,” Superintendent Jim Tucker said.
