Police investigating road harassment, burglary

A Marion, Louisiana, truck driver was allegedly threatened with a gun earlier this month while hauling pea gravel through El Dorado.

Jimmy Smith told El Dorado police Wednesday that the incident occurred Dec. 9 and started at the intersection of U.S. highways 167 and 82.

Smith said he was turning east onto U.S. 82 when a white Dodge Ram pickup truck “barely yielded” to allow him to turn and followed “directly behind” his 18-wheeler “for some time.”

A sign that is posted on the tractor-trailer warns drivers against following the truck closely because of “falling rocks,” he said.

At one point, the pickup sped up and pulled alongside the 18-wheeler, Smith told officers, noting that two white males were inside the pickup.

He said the driver yelled and cursed at him for several seconds, apparently because pea gravel was striking the pickup truck, and Smith responded by telling the men to drive past him.

The driver then pulled a handgun from a storage compartment inside the truck, reached across the “passenger’s face” and pointed the gun at Smith, Smith reported.

Smith said he then slammed on his brakes and allowed the pickup truck to drive past him.

He also told police that the men were wearing uniforms indicating that they were employees of a local industry.

An industry representative called him days later and said the passenger had notified the company about the incident and an internal investigation was underway, Smith said.

He added that the industry representative also advised him to report the incident to the El Dorado Police Department.

Burglary

El Dorado police are investigating a residential burglary in which a man’s ex-girlfriend reportedly cut the victim’s hair as he slept and threatened him with a blade.

Officers responded at 12:47 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a burglary at a residence in the 3200 block of East Main.

Isaac Nesbit told police that while he was asleep, his ex-girlfriend entered the residence through a door that was unlocked and began cutting his hair with a blade.

He said that when he woke up, the suspect threatened to stab him with the blade and ran out of the house when his roommate walked into the room.

Moments after the suspect left, Nesbit said he looked for his wallet and suspected that the suspect grabbed it as she ran out the door.

The wallet reportedly contained $200 cash and personal papers. No other items were reported missing.
