Two new local COVID cases, active cases at 73

The Arkansas Department of Health reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Union County Monday, bringing the cumulative total of cases identified locally to 435.

Of those, 346 were considered recovered Monday, up three from Sunday. There remained 73 active cases in the county Monday, a net decrease of one from Sunday. Active cases represented 16.78% of the county’s cumulative cases on Monday.

No new local deaths attributable to COVID-19 were reported Monday. Sixteen Union County residents have died as a result of the virus.

No changes were reported in any of the congregate living facilities where COVID-19 has been identified in Union County. There was one active worker case at Community Living Arrangements, along with two active worker cases at Timberlane Health and Rehab on Monday. Active cases in the two facilities represented 4.1% of active cases in Union County Monday.

The ADH reported 37 new negative test results returned from Union County Monday, indicating a local one-day positivity rate of 5.12% based on the number of new cases and results reported. In all, 4,587 total test results have returned from Union County, including 4,143 negatives, indicating an overall local positivity rate of 9.48%.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Arkansas grew by 787 to reach 44,597 cumulative cases Monday. Of those, 37,240 were considered recovered, leaving 6,882 cases — 15.43% of the cumulative number of cases — active statewide.

The deaths of 11 Arkansans that resulted from COVID-19 were reported Monday, bringing the state’s death toll to 475, indicating a state COVID mortality rate of 1.06%. There were 513 Arkansans hospitalized due to the virus on Monday, down two from Sunday. There were 108 Arkansans with COVID-19 on ventilator support Monday, up two from Sunday.

There were 6,357 COVID-19 tests performed in the 24-hour period before updated state COVID-19 totals were released in the early afternoon Monday. So far in August, 12,025 COVID-19 tests have been performed.

The ADH reported 6,872 new negative test results returned statewide Monday, indicating a one-day positivity rate of 10.27% for the state based on the number of new cases and results reported. Since the state began testing for COVID-19, 527,400 results have been reported to the ADH, with 482,803 negatives, indicating an overall positivity rate for the state of 8.45%.

According to Johns Hopkins University, there were 4,710,282 COVID-19 cases in the United States at 6:20 p.m. Monday. Of those, 1,513,446 were considered recovered, leaving 3,041,505 cases — 64.57% — active nationwide. There had been 155,331 deaths in the U.S. attributable to the virus by Monday afternoon, indicating a national COVID mortality rate of 3.29%.

Johns Hopkins reported 18,178,736 COVID-19 cases worldwide Monday afternoon. Of those, 10,835,789 were considered recovered on Monday, leaving 6,651,836 cases — 36.59% — active around the world. There had been 691,111 deaths attributable to the virus by Monday afternoon, indicating a global COVID mortality rate of 3.8%.
