Dragons open junior high season with victory

NORPHLET - Junction City kicked off its junior high campaign with a 24-0 win over Smackover Thursday night.

The game was scoreless at intermission, but the Dragons broke the stalemate with a pair of scores in the third quarter.

Decoreon Dubose scored on a 5-yard run to open the scoring, and the freshman ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Tyler Spooner then extended Junction City’s lead with a 6-yard run while also adding the two-point conversion.

Dubose capped the scoring in the contest with a 34-yard run along with the two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Dubose finished with 162 yards rushing on 19 carries to pace the Dragons.

Spooner had 12 yards on five carries with Kristopher Norman picking up four yards on three carries.

Junction City’s coaching staff also singled out the play of the offensive and defensive lines with Norman and Austin Mendoza making big plays for the Dragons’ defense.
